...because it's now an art gallery.. it was really strange to have a look around the building and see what they have done with it.
a lot of the old kh features are still there.
they have kept the old platform, it gets used as a music venue on occasions.. i went up on the platform and faced the hall to bring back memories of the hundreds of times i stood there giving talks.. they have quite a few of the old chairs and the magazine/literature counter is still there but it has been moved beside the stage and painted.. all those huge windows have been restored and the place is full of light.. you can see a lot of pictures at their website, they have called it "the berwick watchtower".. the owner asked my wife and i if it was our first visit - hahaha.
I remember my first EVER awareness of the fact that there were people aligned against the WT was on holiday in Berwick..
I saw a notice in a window or on a noticeboard somewhere, I forget the actual message but it was something like "have you been hurt by JW's", or, "do you want to know the TRUTH about JW'S", I remember thinkingthat I couldn't believe there was anything anyone could possibly be upset about!!

thanks for posting this question, I don't know WHATTHEHECK I believe in anymore, and I gotta admit I'm a little girl when it comes to asking belief based questions since I've seen so many get shot down in flames here by those who believe in nothing anymore.

I kinda understand what you mean though, IF you believe in a God, then it just doesn't make sense to believe he created earth to be equal parts beautiful and poohole.

there is a catch-22 that can trip you up at the local kingdom hall.. .
if you receive "counsel" from an elder about any behavior at all and you "resist" or question the counsel you can be accused of having a "spirit of rebellion".. .
so, you have to either shut up and comply (with even the most ludicrous and ill-founded suggestions) or answer back and be chastised and "marked".. .

@amelia Ashton, that's the kindest response yet. There's no sense in verbally attacking someone for their opinion even if attacked.. Be reasonable and youre more likely to get an actual discussion going with someone who might LISTEN. Isn't that what this forum is for?

undoubtely the biggest crime in watchtower world is apostacy.
the upcoming dc apparently has quite some parts on this issue.. recently i read a book from the philosopher hubert schleichert, the title is something like "how to discuss with fundumantelist without loosing your mind".. he goes into fanatics of all kind, and shows, why apostates are so dangerous for any ideology, may it be religious or even political.. the reason: any strong ideology is convinced of possesing the truth.
this creates a problem, since apparantly not everybody accepts this belief or ideology.

@skinnedsheep - I feel the same as you, I've been preparing what to say to anyone who starts to ask why I'm not responding to their concern, missing more meetings etc, for MONTHS now.
I think all of those things you've said are spot on, BUT I'd only be willing to say these things to my wife and parents, or to VERY close friends and only after I've asked them if they REALLY want to know, and stipulate you're not trying to destroy anyone elses faith, but just that yours is faltering right now.
If you vocalise any of these concerns to an elder you will become their immediate project for strengthening/upbuilding.
Isn't it ridiculous that we have to play this game.
